BUT BUSINESS CONFIDENCE LACKING. (By Telegrapli.—Special to Standard.) WELLINGTON Nov. 23. As notes may be issued oy the banks up to the amount of the gold and public securities held by them, they are at present in a position to more than double the note issue if necessary. This information was conveyed to the House of Representatives to-day by Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes in reply to a tabled question.
Mr Forbes added that the Budget showed that ample credit was available and that what was lacking was business confidence to make more use of it.
