The secretary of the North and South Island Motor Unions has been advised that His Excellencv the Gov-ernor-General, Lord Bledisloe, has consented to accept the office of patron.

The Auckland University College Council has reappointed Sir George Fowlds and Mr T. U. Wells as its representatives on the council of Massey Agricultural College. Messrs Merrin*;ton and Blackie, inspectors for the Wanganui Board of Education, are in Palmerston North for the purpose of conducting the annual examinations for proficiency certificates.

Rev. J. C. Abbott, formerly vicar of St. Peter’s Church, Terrace' End, who has been on a visit to Palmerston North, returned . this afternoon to Tinui. Mr Abbott was the guest of Mrs Cout'ts, senr., of Main Street East, during his brief visit to this centre.

A large gathering of teachers of the Southern Hawke’s Bay district met at Dannevirke on Tuesday to bid farewell to Mr D. McCaskill, senior inspector of Hawke’s Bay, who has been promoted to the position of senior inspector in the Wellington district.

Messrs E. F. Hemingway (chairman of the Wanganui Board of Education), W. H. Swanger (secretary) and E. R. Hodge (architect) returned to Wanganui by car yesterday afternoon after making an inspection of the schools and grounds attached thereto in Palmerston North.

Three presentations of two-year bars were made to members of the Levin Fire Brigade at a reunion held on Tuesday evening. The ceremony was carried out by Foreman Little, of Palmerston North, and the recipients were: Superintendent M. Sutherland, completing seven years’ service; Lieut. H. Johnson, 15 years’ service; and Foreman W. Salmons, seven years’ service.

Mr G. Pitkethley, who has been boys’ work director at the Palmerston North Y.M.C.A. for several years past, and who is leaving for Dunedin early next year, was at the rally of the boys last evening made the recipient of a shaving outfit by Masters E. Hosking and E. Coates, senior leaders of the primary group, in recognition of his splendid work while attached to the staff.

“We desire to place on record our appreciation of the good work done for the Sunday School by the late Rev. J. E. Parsons, who was loved by ail the children, and our sincere regret that his ministry here should have ended so abruptly,” stated Mr E. Lock, secretary of St. Paul’s Methodist Sunday School, in the annual report which he presented at the anniversary function last evening.
