OBITUARY.

MR A. A. HIBELL. Mr Arthur Alfred Hibell, whose death occurred in the hospital on Sunday last, had only been an inmate of the institution for a week preceding, but lie had not enjoyed "robust health for some years, and it was on that account that he retired from farming and came to Palmerston North to take up his residence at No. 28 Manawatu Street. Originally of Wellington, Mr Hibell commenced farming in the Waverley district some 27 years ago, when the township was of only modest dimensions and the roads were in process of construction. He later moved to Marton where he carried on mixed farming, and then followed periods of varying duration at Aokautere and Shannon. The deceased had occupied his Shannon property for 10 years when ill-health necessitated the relinquishing of fanning pursuits, and he had been a resident of Palmerston North for the past four years. In his younger days Mr Hibell was interested in athletics, wrestling, boxing, etc., while it was his practice as a shearer to follow, the seasonal occupation in both New Zealand and Australia. Of a generous disposition, he was ever ready to extend a helping hand to those in need, or to charitable institutions, and his death in his 60th year was regretted by- many friends. The funeral took place yesterday, the remains being laid to rest in the Kelvin Grove cemetery, Rev. D. J. Davies conducting the services at both the house and the graveside. There are left to mourn their loss a widow and family of four sons and six daughters—Messrs William (Foxton), John (Levin) Thomas and Master Bert Hibeil (Palmerston North), Miss Elizabeth Hibell, of Hastings, and Misses Muriel, Olive, Edith, Pearl and Betty Hibell, of Palmerston North.
