GENERAL FORECAST. The recent anti-cyclone is passing away eastward and an intense westerly depression is advancing on to the Dominion, barometers having fallen considerably in the far south. Strong northerly to westerly winds, of gaie force in many places, backing to southerly to-day in the far south. Seas rough south of Cape Egmont and off-shore south of Castlepoint; elsewhere moderate in New Zealand, waters. Strong north to west winds to gales ■in the eastern Tasman Sea, backing later to south-west; seas moderate in the northern portion, but rising and rough to heavy in the southern portion. Weather unsettled and squally; rain in districts with a westerly aspect with some heavy falls; mainly dry and warm at first in eastern districts, but showers and much lower temperatures accompanying a generfal southerly change due after from 24 to 36 hours. DISTRICT REPORT. SQUALLY AND CHANGEABLE. The Government meteorologist wired to-day:—The indications are for westerly winds, strong to gale, backing by west to south after about 16 hours. The weather will probably be squally and changeable, with some showers and temperatures becoming colder to-morrow. The barometer is unsteady, and will be rising later. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE.
