FEILDING.

ST. PAUL’S PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.

The annual congregational meeting of adherents of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church was held in St. Paul's Hall last night, Rev. D. R. McDonald presiding. Prior to the general business of the meeting the session clerk, Mr S. D. Pearce, referred to the death of Mr A. Spence and moved that the sympathy of the congregation be conveyed to Mrs Spence in her great loss. r Pearce said St. Paul s Church and the congregation had sustained a deep loss in the passing of a beloved elder who, by his uprightness and gentleness, had endeared himself to all with whom he had come in contact. The motion was supported by the chairman and members of the congregation, and was carried in silence, all present standing. The report of the various committees were then considered. The management committee reported that 11 meetings had been held during the year at which the average attendance of managers had been six. “Owing largely to the present difficult conditions the financial year resulted in an excess of expenditure oyer revenue of £127 6s lOd, thus increasing the debit in the general account from £63 Os od to £125. This was caused by a drop in collections (including envelopes) compared with last year of £l2 Is 8d; in sustentation of £4B 19s 6d; in thanksgiving boxes of £lO Is Id; in hall rent of 18s 6d; in the golden offering of £l4 9s 3d; while expenditure decreased by £22 10s 4d only. The envelopes collections averaged £1 12s lOd per Sunday from 33 subscribers (including children), but this scheme has not received the sup-

. port expected when it was adopted The bank overdraft, guaranteed by two members of the congregation, was funded in an endeavour to keep ex- , penditure within income and thus . ultimately liquidate the overdraft. The sum of £45 of the golden offering was applied in permanent reduction, but this prevented the committee from undertaking any further painting of the church buildings. The Young 33'orshippers’ League has been under the control of Mr F. Finch. The committee recorded its thanks to Mr N. J. Bartholomew, auditor, and Mr 0. Aldis, treasurer.”—Adopted. The treasurer, Mr 0. Aldis, gave an account of the expenditure and income for the year, stating that in view of the exceptional circumstances prevailing the position of the various accounts could only be considered satisfactory. • —The balance-sheet was adopted.. In addition to the above the reports of the session, Sunday school, Bible classes, P.W.31.U., Girls’ Auxiliary, Busy Bees, choir and St. Paul’s Tennis Club were read and adopted, members expressing their appreciation of the work of the various organisations.

ELECTION* OF OFFICERS. A recommendation from the outgoing committee was adopted, that the number of managers be limited to 12, the term of office to be three years and onethird of the managers to retire by ballot at the end of each year and to be eligible for re-election. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Messrs 0. Aldis, A. B. Svendsen, A. Reid, E. McFarland, Ferguson, J. J. Sandbrook, S. McDowall, F. Finch, A. E. Matheson, T. Page and J. 31. Matts.

Eulogistic reference was also made to the work of 3liss Armour in connection with the senior girls’ classes. Her services were stated to have been of exceptional value in many ways. The thanks of the meeting were also conveyed to Mr Geo. Bortnolomew, the choirmaster, for the splendid singing provided by the choir at all services during the year. BO3VLING. At a meeting of the Christmas bowling tournament committee last night reports received from surrounding clubs indicated that the tourney would be a most successful one, it being anticipated that 32 teams would participate. Further particulars concerning the tournament have been issued to all clubs, together with details of hotel tariffs in Feilding, the latter being in the event of any of the visiting rinks wishing to make provisions to stay in Feilding over the duration of ' the

tournament. This being the first event of this nature promoted in Feilding, the committee is making every effort towards the success of the enterprise and is very satisfied with the early indications towards that end, the reports received giving the impression that a long felt want for howlers during the Christmas period is being supplied by the tournament.
