FAST WORK AT AWAPUNI. (By “Binocular.”) Steady rain delayed training operations at Awapuni for a period before breakfast to-day, but it ceased and the later candidates enjoyed excellent conditions. As matters are, further rain would have been bonoficial to the tracks. Lightweight horsemen wore entirely absent and the pre-breakfast workers were required to carry substantial poundages as a result. With the flags on tho course proper out to practically their fullest extent, times were not by any means fast. Bee Acre (Faage) and Unacre (McCormac) were partnered over five furlongs, the former being in front after running the distance in 1.11. A heavy track will not improve tho prospects of Bee Acre at Levin. Nebulae (McCormac), who is not being hurried, ran a comfortable five furlongs in 1.12 1-5. Statuary (A. E. Stratton) and Joy Spear (MoCormac) jumped away at the mile post to run tho first three furlongs in 42sec, five in 1.9 3-5 and six in 1.24. Although Joy i Spear had a slight advantage in tho early i stages, Statuary was travelling the easier at the close, after running tho full distance in 1.54 2-5. Senegal (Stratton), who iB down to figure, at Feilding, ran five' furlongs under a strong hold in 1.14 1-5. AFTER BREAKFAST. Sporting Chance (L. Jones) ran his first two furlongs in 26 4-5' and five furlongs in 1.12, travelling within himself. Jean Ladosio (Thompson) had a slight advantage over Beaeonsfield (Anderson) at the end of five furlongs run in I.B£, the first two furlongs having been travsersed in 25 4-ssec. Beau Gallante (Anderson) was restricted to a five furlong gallop, the big chestnut fulfilling his task in I.B£, having something in hand. Lady Court (Thompson), after jumping away in front of Trojan Melody (Chisholm), waited for her companion. Aided by tho inside running, Trojan, Melody drew away and passed the post several lengths clear after running the half mile in 55 l-ssecs. Colossiyn (Chisholm) was given a taste of the whip throughout in a three furlongs sprint in company with the Marchalong colt (Anderson) from J. CoyTe’s stable. The treatment proved advantageous, for Colossian was early in front to* pass the post three lengths in advance of his companion. He, nevertheless, required 41 2-5 secs to cover tho distance. La Modeme ((Chisholm registered the fastest gallop of the morning when, ridden out, she covered the first two furlongs of her five furlongs task in- 25£socs. and tho full distance in I.s£secs. After Money (McDowell), who is still growing, was holding an advantage over Hugo (Chisholm) at tho close of three furlongs which were negotiated in 39 2-5 secs. Interlocutor (Faulkner) jumped of! behind the othor pair and, after losing ground in- the initial stages, was gathering the others up in the run down the straight. THE JUMPERS. Laokoon (A. McDonald) and Patearoa (Thompson) were partners over three fences. The latter negotiated the first hurdle the better, but with greater pace up Laokoon improved thereafter, the pair fencing together to finish on terms. Patearoa’s performance was ver} r creditable. Headland (C. Robinson), who is one of Awapuni’s brace in the jumping event at Levin, was exercised on the plough. He sported a bandage in front. Warzono, the centre’s other candidate, can bo viewed as an unlikely starter as a result of her doubtful leg. Blacksmith (A. McDonald), who has not been jumped since he raced at Napier Park in March last, jumped a trifle high at his first fence when 6ent over three hurdles, but at the next two he took off from well in front to jump beautifully. # . . A Tribulation gelding was given a similar task by A. McDonald, and the novice showed fair promise, although he hesitated at his fences. GENERAL. Good Hunting and Aiguille, two candidates for tho Levin meeting, arrived in Palmerston North from Wairoa by motor lorry late yesterday afternoon and went on to-day. The pair appeared to 6tand the long journey quite satisfactorily, the lorry being one which had been converted to the purpose by the owner. Although B. H. Morris has been announced~ as tho rider of Maypay, the trainer of 800 Aero understands that Morns will ndo his representative at Levin, It- Chisholm will probably be the rider of Trojan Melody. S. Anderson will bo associated with Beaoonsfield, Gold Gleam and Wasteland,

while W. J. McDowell will pilot Milnrow, Moab Queen, Morrath and Interlocutor. No riders liavo been announced for Unacre and Jean Ladosio. K. Yoitro will attend the Takapuna fixture. It. Hoed was due back from Sydney this week, but his name does not appear in tho passenger lists of either tho Marama or tho Mariposa, which arrived at Auckland on Monday and Tuesday respectively. Solitaire 11. was scratched at noon yestorday for tho McDonald Memorial Handicap at Levin. INQUIRY AT CARTERTON. After the running of tho final event, the Electric Hack Handicap, at Carterton_ on Saturday, a lengthy inquiry was held into interference suffered by White Squall when going round the top bend about a furlong after tho start, and the decision of the Judicial Committee has now boon announced. . Tho committee, after hearing evidence from the riders of White Squall (W. E. Shand), Speed (S. Andorson), Teastroam (G. F. Dick), Rhea (S. Wilson), decided that tJig ovidcnco was not sufficient to show that any of tho riders were definitely at fault, and it therefore took no action. It appeared that there had been a gradual squeezing in by tho outside horses, and it was this crowding that was the cause of the trouble that occurred on tho turn, which begins only a short distance from tho five furlongs barrier. FEILDING JOCKEY CLUB. CLOSING OF ACCEPTANCES.
