PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES. There was a very pleasant function in the lounge at the Palmerston North Y.M.0.A., last evening, when the trophies won during the season were presented to the boys. There were about 40 present. The list of winners is as follows: —Cup, best all-round boy (under 15) Neil Metcalfe, 487 points (possible 540); medal for runner-ux>, Ewan Davidson, 452 points; medal for most improved boy, Dick Bettle; book for best all-round junior High School boy, Ken Sutton; medal and group photograph for most improved. and most consistent player in i'.M.C.A. soccer team, W. Smillie. Mr L. Laurenson, chairman of the boys’ work committee, presided and expressed appreciation of the progress accomplished during the year. He made eulogistic reference to the fine work of tho boys’ work director (Mr G. Pitkethley) and voiced the association's regret that he had accepted a position with the Dunedin Association. Mr C. Woods, the general secretary was to be congratulated on the success he had achieved with the boys during the year, said Mr Laurenson. Mr Pitkethley gave the details of the points gained by the leading twelve boys during the season and announced that tho Wolves Club (R. Young, captain) had won the banner with 285.4 points. The other clubs were Lions (276) 2, Tigers (265.7) 3, Panthers (252.1) 4, Bears (241.8) 5, and Leopards (237.7) 6. The shield and cup which the association had won in the Dominion hexathlon contest wero presented to W. Hadfield, the senior boy, by Mr Laurenson amid applause. Mr Pitkethlev, in a short speech, which was really his farewell message to the boys, spoke of the words of the Apostle Paul wherein he adjured his hearers to “run the race that was set before them” so that with him each boy would say, “I have run a straight race, I have finished my course, I havo fought a good fight.” Mr R. M. Brasted, the national secretary, had intended to be present but was prevented and forwarded an apology for unavoidable absence.
