SLAUGHTERING DISPUTE.

PLENTY OF LABOUR AVAILABLE, Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 22. An official statement issued by a re* presentative of the South Island Freezing Companies’ Association stnted that the works commenced killing operations with an ample supply or union labour in all departments except at the slaughtering boards. Tile Islington works proved an exception. Only a limited number of union men turned up there to man tha fellmongery and other departments. Slaughtering operations are proceeding at all works with free labour sufficient to meet the requirements of the companies. The manager of the freezing works at Kaiapoi states that there were more men offering than he knew what to do with. _ They had a small number of sheep in the yards—enough to keep tha learners going all day. Managers of other works say that their works will be able to carry on satisfactorily, and the abundant 'nonunion labour is offering. At the same time, union leaders say the men are firm in declining work og the terms offered.
