FOXTON.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, Nov. 22. Time or trouble was not spared by members of All Saints’ congregation to make the Japanese bazaar held in the Town Hall last evening an outstanding success. The bazaar was officially opened during the afternoon by the Mayor (Mr M. E. Perreau) and as the official party stepped on to the stage the Mayoress was presented with a handsome bouquet by Miss Enid Coley, grand-daughter of Mr Win. Nye, senr. (vicar’s warden). Rev. Mr Young, in introducing the Mayor, apologised for the unavoidable absence of •Mr J. Linklater, M.P., and intimated that the purpose of the bazaar was to raise a sum in the vicinity of £BO with the object of liquidating the church debt. The stall holders were: Guild, Mcsdames J. and M. Robinson, D. Christie, senr., and junr., Miss L. Robinson. Produce: Mesdames S. Austin, E. W. Thano and W. E. Barber. Jumble: Mesdames J. Newth, Dix and F. Carmont. Flower: Mesdames C. Robinson, C. Symons and Miss N. Woods. Cake: Mesdames Davis, J. Robinson, R. Bryant, Cecil Robinson and Miss N. Robinson. Sweets: Members of the choir. The tea rooms were run by Mesdames R. D. Meyer, F. A. Mason, Wm. Trueman and Missos E. and M. Barber and Dix. Mrs W. Robson left Foxton on a short visit to Palmerston North this morning. Mr J. IC. Hornblow left for Auckland by car yesterday to attend the annual communication of the Masonic Lodge. Mr W. Edwards, of Beach Road, has entered the Palmerston North Hospital for treatment. The Foxton Surf and Life Saving Club has now completed its fourth year in the good cause of life saving and two more rescues last season were added to the long list made at various times by the club since its inception in 1928. The club house, which was begun about twelve lycnths ago, is now nearing completion. It is to be regretted that Mr McGregor, who lias done much in the' building of the pavilion, lias been transferred to Halcombe. The Manawatu Head Centre of the Royal Life Saving Society has right along fostered the Foxton Club with the keenest of interest and. we would like to specially thank Mr W. C. Collier (president) and Mr R. E. Small (secretary) for their untiring efforts on our behalf. About six new members are to be enrolled. During the winter months much time was - spfent in planting marram grass, ice plant, etc., around the pavilion and also in fascining the sand with manuka. The sand drift menace has been quite overcome and the building is now quite safe from wind erosion. ’A word of thanks is due to Mrs A. Thomas who supplied the patrolling teams with afternoon tea through the season. The members have all teamed in well with the club captain, Mr G. Sharv. It has been decided to hold the New Zealand surf championships on this beach during the coming season and these will no doubt be of great interest to the public, as all the leading New Zealand teams will be competing.
