The contest was a close one and produced very entertaining football, resulting in a win for City by 4 goals to 2. Next Saturday St. Andrews, who tlicw the bye, will meet the winners m the final. . , The opening stages were of a lively nature and there was a sharp interchange of play. Athletic wero a little more aggressive however, and forced the issue with City. J. Crowe sending tho leather through his own goal while defending. City wero stung into action immediately and invaded Athletic’s area eu bloc. It was a determined effort and Lovejoy culminated the movement with a sharp'shot from close in. . , , • i With tho scores even, Athletic usc.u every endeavour to gain flic advantage, but - Graham was defending his goal in characteristic style. City were their equals, however, and worried their backs considerably. 'J’ho tactics employed produced very interesting football and showed that Athletic wero just a little more finished. Tho shooting and trapping of both sides were of a high standard, but City found it difficult to reach Athletic’s halfway line. The dying stages of the spell saw the game resolve into a scramble and half-time sounded with the score unchanged. City opened the second half with steady football and forced Athletic hacks to defend. Askaiu and Crowe handled tho leather nicely, but the City _ forwards bustled and in the scramble Clandgo broke through and had no difficulty m sending Lite leather past Reid. It was Athletic’s turn to defend for a time, hut City’s shots wero too speculative and the blacks took tho opportunity to combine and test the red and white backs, P. Childs equalising with a hard shot.

Up and down play filled many minutes, but City wero dominant, although Athletic endangered their goal with a sudden break when Chillis narrowly missed an open goal. Shortly afterwards. Elliott missed tlie Athletic goal by soaring tlie leather above the bar. City were awarded a penalty shot a few minutes afterwards and Baigcnt lmd no difficulty in netting. Roth teams survived several comer shots. In defending, Reid carried the ball and a penalty was imposed.
