PAHIATUA.

PAHIATUA, Sept, 16. The resignation of Rev. x\. F. Sutherland, 8.A., of Pahiatua, was submitted at a special meeting of the W airarapa Presbytery this week. Mr Sutherland has accepted another appointment offered him by the supply and appointments committee. It was pointed out at the meeting that Mr Sutherland had been promoted to a larger district and parish. The resignation will take effect as from October 5. A satisfactory conference between officers of the Pahiatua A. and P. Association and business people regarding the next show was held yesterday morning. 'Uie association was represented by Messrs T. C. Cornford, G. 1-1. llodd and A. Ross. Mr Hodd outlined the position so far as the Association was concerned. After a lengthy discussion, various suggestions were made which will be submitted to the meeting of the executive of the association next Tuesday. Although the weather was not very inviting a large number of members attended the September meeting of the Mangatainoka Women’s Institute and a happy afternoon was spent. Mrs Walker presided, and also gave an interesting demonstration of scagrass stool-making. Letters of appreciation were received from Mrs 11. Patterson and Mrs L. D. Lovelock on behalf of the Crash Club. Mrs H. Norris was appointed delegate to the half-yearly council meeting. The competition for the month was for an article made from a sugar-bag. This was won by Mrs Norris, with a letter-pocket embroidered with red wool, and Mrs Kcrrison was second with a shopping bag dyed black and embroidered in colours. Another competition, “jumbled fish names,” arranged by Mrs Howell, resulted in a tie, the winner eventually being Mrs Norris. Members decided to knit “Peggy squares” in wool. These are to bo brought to the November meeting and joined to form a rug, which will then bo given to a needy local family. Afternoon tea was dispensed by Mesdames Tait, Williams and Bryant.
