COTTON INDUSTRY.

ATTEMPT TO SETTLE DISPUTE.

(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Sept. 13. At a conference of representatives of the employers and employees in the Lancashire cotton industry to-day, Mr F. W. Leggett, conciliation officer of the Ministry of Labour, who presided, gave a detailed explanation of the letter addressed to both sides several days ago by Sir Henry Betterton, Minister of Labour.

The conference appointed a committee of five representatives of each side to draw up a plan of procedure, and adjourned till to-morrow, leaving the sub-committee of ten in session. It is understood that the sub-committee discussed the question of reinstatement, and is expected to present a report tomorrow.
