ENGLISH CRICKETERS.

TEAM FOR AUSTRALIA.

LONDON Sept. 13. The cricket selectors took a bold and probably a wiso step in recruiting W. E. Bowes, of Yorkshire, to join the M.C.C. for Australia, and New Zealand four days before tho team sails, but a less happy aspect of their choice is tho swelling of the team to rather unmanageable proportions, increasing Jardine’s already unenviable problem as to whom to omit from tho team, which a few weeks ago could justifiably be described as tailless. It now possesses a pronounced weakness in batting with Mitchell, Bowes, Verity, Duckworth and Tate, especially as the last-named’s batting has gone to pieces. Bowes is not tremendously fast, but is sometimes really dangerous, and rises awkwardly.

The team is as under:—D. R. Jardine (Surrey), captain; R. E. S. AVyatt (AA’arwiqkshire); 11. Sutriiffo (Yorkshire); M. Lcyland (Yorkshire); AV. R. Hammond (Gloucestershire); Tho Nawab of Pataudi (Worcestershire); L. Ames (Kent); M. AV. Tate (Sussox); 11. Larwood (Nottinghamshire); F. R. Brown (Surrey); G. 0. Allen (Middlesex); 11. Verity (Yorkshire); AV} Voce (Nottinghamshire); G. Duckworth (Lancashire); T. B. Alitcholl (Derbyshire); AV. E. Bowes (Yorkshire).
