Friends of Mr W. L. Siddells, of Lombard Street, will be to learn that he is now making a steady recovery after his severe illness extending over several weeks. A British Official W ireless message states Winston Churchill, who is on a holiday, tour in Europe, is suffering from an attack of paratvphoid at Salzburg, Austria. He is* in a sanatorium. His illness is taking the normal course, and there is no cause for anxietv.
The death occurred recently at ” anganui of Mr Alexander Allison one of the leading horticulturists in the Dominion, who had collected plants from all parts of the world. He was patron of the Fordell Horticultural Society, and had been a vice-president of the \\ anganui Horticultural Societv for the last 40 rears.
Lieut-Colonel S. G. Sandle, of Palmerston North, whose appointment as -Sergeant- at-Arms was recently announced left to-day for Wellington to undertake his new duties. SeniorSergeant E. J. Wkitehouse, of the Central Police Statiorv will ac t as relieying probation officer until the successor to Colonel Sandle is announced.

Ltd., at Marton, as accountant and auctioneer, and has much experience in the business which he is now to control.
