PROPOSAL BY FARMERS

A letter was received at this a Iternoon’s meeting, at Palmerston North, of the executive of tlie Dairy Farmers’ Union, from tire Rangiotu branch, suggesting that the union go into the suggestion for an exchange of bills. Many registered bulls were disposed of to' freezing works, although good tor years of service, but these bulls could be exchanged amongst farmers and thus save a great amount of money, it was stated. Bulls of proved but-ter-fat production could ue retained, ns they should be. The Herd 'testing Association would appreciate any suggestions in this direction, the letter added. Air I,egg said that a lot of useful work could be done at a small cost. There was no reason why a farmer should dispose ot a good bull lor boiling down. If desired, bulls could be exchanged between tanners. He knew ot a ease in which a man had sold a magnificent bull lor £5. Ah- Mason suggested that the Herd Testing Association could compile a list ot the bulls available. Air Legg stated that the Herd 'testing Association's records could not be disclosed without authority. It was pu.« ed out that if a farmer desired to soil a bull he would giie the records. Air Bond thought the executive should support tlie suggestion .Ur Boyce said tire nerd lestmg Association could do a lot to help tlie matter. Mr Gimblett said the association considered that good butterfat bulls should not l>e slaughtered. He considered that the members of the Dairy Farmers’ Union could do much to help the proposal next season. It was decided to suggest to the Herd Testing Association that it establish a bull exchange in conjunction with Dairy Farmers' Union. Mr Seifert said the scheme could be carried out without much expense.
