NAVIGATION ACT.
AMENDMENT IN AUSTRALIA
Received September 14, 9.30 a.m. CANBERRA, Sept. 14. Amending navigation legislation is being introduced into the Federal Parliament shortly that will control the operations of the present Matson service between Auckland, Sydney and Melbourne, complaints regarding which have been made by a committee of members of Parliament of four States. It is further claimed that an amendment to the Navigation Act will do much to re-establish trade between Australia and New Zealand. Some of the members are seeking restoration of the former passenger service front Sydney to Hobart via Auckland, Wellington, Bluff and Hobart, the cessation of which seriously affected the tourist traffic.
