BOXING.

OXLEY TO MEET HUGHES,

The Manawatu Boxing Association has been required, by circumstances bevond its control, to cancel the professional bout between Ted. Oxley and Johnie Leckie, which was set down for September 19. Leckie refused the match as he has a bout at Hastings a week later. The Association got into touch with Donovan, but this boxer stated that he could not become sufficiently fit in the time allowed. An endeavour was then made to have Archie Hughes, who recently beat Oxley, to fight a return match. Mr G Watchorn, who is in Auckland, notified Mr J. P. Evans this morning that Oxley would not be able to appear in Palmerston North before October 11. Accordingly, tho bout between Oxley and Hughes will take place at a date to be arranged.
