ENGINEER’S REPORT,

The engineer, Mr R. L. Harding, presented the following report at today’s meeting of the Oroua County Council at Feilding: “Eastern Riding.—The principal work done in this riding has been the gravelling of roads in the vicinity of Ashhurst with grave] from the crushin plant at Lower Gorge bridge. The following roads have received attention; Kelvin Grove 175yds; township, Ashhurst, 210yds; Po'iiangina Road dump, 684yds; Watershed Road, 200 yds; Ulysses Road, 162yds; Spur Road, is3yds; Grove Road, 98yds; Harrison’s Road, 130yds; Palmerston-Ash-hurst, 254yds; Raukawa Road, 97yds; Siberia Road, 99yds; Feilding-Ash-hurst, 264vds; others, 18yds; total, 2244 cubic yards. Two old culverts on the Feilding-Ashhurst Road have been replaced with concrete pipes. Several dangerous corners on "Watershed Road have been cut back and generally improved. Similar work has also been done on Midland Road. The 50ft land span of the Mangaone Stream bridge at Bunnythorpe was unsafe for traffic and 1 have made preparation to reduce the length of this span; in the meantime measures have been taken to strengthen it. Manawatu Gorge Road : During tho recent heavy rains several small slips and one large slip came down on this road. In the case of the large slip the road was blocked until about 10.30 a.m. However, everything has been cleaned up again and the road is now in good order. “"Western Riding.—Little besides ordinary maintenance work has been done in this riding. Some gravel repairs have been carried out on the Feilding-Halcombe Road and a section of the newly formed road at Kakariki has received a top dressing of fine pit gravel. Labour under No. 5 schemo has been employed draining and banking the lower portion of Makino Road. The fence at the approach to the Kiwitea bridge has been erected.” RATE ROLL. The following alterations were made on the county rolls: Commissioner of Crown Lands to the King; S. J. Avery to Williaw J. Aynsley; Public Trustee to Robert George Linklater; J. B. Searle to Charles Cargill Thomson; "W. and I. G. Tremewan to "Winifred Tremewan; Public Trustee to George Devonport; Edwin Marshall to William Rayworth; E. P. Mason to Arthur W. Trass.

TREASURER’S REPORT. The treasurer reported that the amount of rates collected during the current year was £996 6s Id. Total rates outstanding (three years), Natives, £783 16s 8d; Crown, £6O 15s; European, £899 7s 7d. Total outstanding £1743 19s 3d. Collected (European) £264 13s 3d. Riding accounts: Expenditure on maintenance, Western Riding, £763 Is 3d; Eastern Riding, £695 17s 3d. Bank balance: General account (dr.) £1645 0s 9d.
