SELECTON OF BOWES
LONDON, Sept. 13. Lord Tennyson, the well-known cricketer, has abandoned for private reasons, his visit to Australia. The papers urged that Bowes be selected as tho seventeenth man for Australia to replace Duleepsinliji. Gilligan said: “The selectors must be impressed by his continued magnificent performances. He has been running through most of the opposing sides for six weeks. Ho nearly always dismisses the first four batsmen. He went through the Rest of England as though they were a minor county.” Official: Bowes has accepted an invitation to accompany the M.C.C. team to Australia. This completes the team.
INCLUSION WELCOMED
Received September 14, 8.45 a.m. LONDON, Sept. 13. Tho newspapers welcome the inclusion of Bowes in tho team for Australia. They say that he literally forced himself into the team.
“Few batsmen have played Bowes confidently this season,” declares Mr Carson. “Since the beginning of August he has tnken 92 wickets at an average of 13. His season’s performance is 190 wickets at an average of 15.4 runs.
