CONFESSION OF THEFT.

Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Sept. 14. Charles Victor Birch pleaded guilty to theft as a servant of £l3Ol 13s 5d from a carpet importing company of which, till recently, he was Wellington branch manager. Household expenditure incurred about three years ago on the expectation of a bonus of £165. and subsequent betting with bookmakers in an endeavour to retrieve the position were stated to have been the cause of Birch’s position. Accused was committed for sentence, bail being renewed at £250.
