WOMAN DRIVER.
FINE OF TEN POUNDS.
AUCKLAND Sept. 13. A mother of six children pleaded guilty in the Onehunga Police Court to a cliargo of intoxication, while in chargo of a motor car. Sergeant Brown said that accused, while driving toward Alangere on Friday afternoon, in turning out of Auckland Road into Trafalgar Street, Onehunga, swerved her car to the right and ran into a boy on a bicycle. Fortunately, the boy escaped injury, but the bicycle was badly twisted. Accused was arrested shortly afterwards as she was crossing Alangere Bridge. She was in custody for four hours and had promised to take out a prohibition order.
In pleading guilty to the charge, counsel for accused said that she had collided with the bicycle in attempting to avoid a dog. She was the mother of six children and this was her first offence. The presiding justices of the Peace referred to the seriousness of the offence and imposed a fine of £lO and costs. The name of the woman was ordered to be suppressed.
