OLD BOYS CLUB AIEETS
BRIGHT PROSPECTS
In preparation for the coming cricket season, the Old Boys Club held its annual meeting last night, when the president, Mr J. AV. Kutherfurd, occupied the chair. There was a large attendance of members and enthusiasm ran high. The annual report (previously published in the “Standard”) and tho balance sheet w'ere read and adopted. Speaking to the report, the chairman complimented the club on the fino spirit of sportsmanship always displayed and said that it was particularly pleasing to notice that, although tho club had not been successful in competition honours, it had heartily extended its congratulations to tho winners in the various grades. Messrs N. Gallichan, S. Laing, N. Angus, Cutler, Ducker (2) and T. Flynn wore elected to membership. The following officers wero appointed for the ensuing season : —Patron, Air T. R. Hodder; president, Air J. AV. Itutherfurd; vice-presidents, R. A. Brace, H. E. Pacey, N. H. Nash, G. H. Bennett, J. Alurray, AV. P. Anderson, J. R. Hardie, A. AlcKegg; club captain, Air AI. O’Keefe; secretary and treasurer, Air B. Trow; lion, auditor, Air K. S. Glendinning; management committee, Alessrs O’Keefe, Trow, F. Holz, AlcGavin and Laing; delegate to Palmerston North High School Old Boys’ Association, Air Trow.
The entering of teams in the competition was left in the hands of the management committee.
Subscriptions were fixed at £1 for senior members and 12s fid for juniors (reducible to 10s if paid by November 1). Practices are to be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Alessrs O’Keefe, Holz, Eglinton, AlcGavin and Gallichan being appointed the selection committee.
The chairman moved a hearty vote of thanks to Air O’Keefe for his work as club captain. “Keenness and enthusiasm has been his keynote and the club was decidedly fortunate to have him as club captain,” said Air Rutherfurd, who also accorded Air Trow, the secretary, a similar vote on behalf of the club. It was resolved that it be a recommendation to the Alanawatu Cricket Association that the junior matches be made two Saturday games instead of only extending over the one Saturday as at present.
