SAMOAN DEPORTEES.

MAU LEADERS’ LETTER.

Per Press Association

AUCKLAND, Sept. 14. Six chiefs of tho Mau in Western Samoa, on August 31, sent a long letter to the Administrator reminding him that the period of banishment or Messrs Nelson and Gun- expires next December and stating that, on their return to Samoa, the Mau proposed to give them a welcome and a reception. The Mau leaders asked, inter alia, for an assurance that there will be no restrictions and no prosecution of Mr Nelson.

The Adminstrator replied briefly that tile events referred to in the letter would be considered and disposed of at the proper time and place, as and when they occurred. The Mau leaders have now advised the deportees not to return until an assurance is received from the New Zealand Government as requested from the Administrator.
