MILSON.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) MILSON, Sept. 13. The monthly meeting of the Milson School Committee was held in the schoolroom last evening, Mr F. G. Murphy presiding. Also present were Messrs Hoskins, Barclay, Richmond, and Frnnklyn (secretary')- A letter was received from the Wanganui Education Board relating to the arrangements for Arbor Day. The local committee have arranged a comprehensive programme, including a function to which parents will bo invited, and they will be addressed by suitable speakers. The children will bo given lectures on the occasion and will be asked to write essays. In addition, a largo number of trees will be planted in the school grounds and environs. During Royal Show week, the school holidays will be on Wednesday and Friday. Frequent complaints regarding the heating of the classrooms have been forwarded to the board. Committeemen have pointed out that the arrangement docs not provide sufficient heat and fuel consumption is unduly heavy. The board contends that the incorrect modo of operation is used, and has issued further instructions as to the method to bo adopted. A copy of the amendment to the by-laws, providing for twenty minutes’ Bible instruction instead of fifteen as at present, was also received from the board. The committee reoorded its thanks to the ladies’ committee for their assistance during the recent school ball, and also for a monetary donation. Tho Milson Tennis Club forwarded a donation of Bs, boing half the cost of providing a gate at the entrance to the school grounds. An extensive programme of improvements to tho grounds is at present boing carried out under tho No. 5 scheme, and the chairman was asked to procure a horse and cart to assist in tho work. Accounts totalling £3 13s 9d were passed for payment. Tho secretary submitted the balance-sheet for the recent ball. This showed a credit balance of £4 .14s 6d. Although this is only half tho amount made last year, it was pointed out that tho charge last year was Is 6d as compared with Is this year. On this occasion the supper costs were borne by tho committee, whilst last year the whole of the 6uppor was donated. The balance-sheet was adopted and considered satisfactory.. It was decided to hold the Arbor Day functions on September 28.
