“ANGANGTIS.”
CONTINENT THAT NEVER
EXISTED,
Tho story of a continent which never materialised was told by Mr E. C. Andrews, former State Geologist, in opening a discussion on tho present position of physiography at tho Science Congress in Sydney. Mr Andrews called tho continent “Anzangtis,” and said that it was made up of Australia, Now Zealand and tho arc comprised in New Guinea, New Caledonia and Tasmania. In explanation, Mr Andrews said that tho great geographic blocks on the other side of the world had their counterpart in tho southern seas. Tho lands now known as Australia, New Zealand, Now Guinea, and so on, together comprised one of theso great blocks. Tho Tasman Sea approximated to the groat low-lying plains of tho other great blocks, but the continent of “Anzangtis” had never been completed because the Tasman had never been filled in. The name “Anzangtis was composite. “A” was Australia, “N.Z:” New Zealand, “A” the Arafura Rea, “N.G.” New Guinea, and “T” tho Tasman Sea.
