MANAWATU BOWLING CENTRE.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I was very .much surprised and disappointed to learn that tno Centre had decided tor a pairs tournament at the New Year instead of full rinks. 1 have always looked upon the game of bowls as being a game to give pleasure to the greatest number; moreover, the full rink game gives the opportunity to young players to play against the best players, and so gain experience and knowledge of the game that they cannot obtain by playing on their own green; also the rink game gives pleasure to double the number that the pairs game does, and gives double revenue to the centre. Elather, all clubs have their own pairs competitions at the different holidays and so prefer the rinks at the New Year and Easter. We all know that good leads are not plentiful in any club, which compels many a skip to take a man as lead who is not up to tournament standard; not that a man expects to win, but he does like to make a fair show. I wonder if those delegates who voted for pairs have had the experience of kicking back over a ton weight of bowls for two or three days? 1 think not, otherwise they would have voted for rinks. —I am, etc., TRUNDLEIt.
