CHARGE OF FORGERY.
ACCUSED COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. Per Press Association. ROTORUA, Sept. 0. A Maori, Thomas Thompson, employed ns a chauffeur by Mr Colin Smith, of Ivawha Point, Rotorua Lake, was today committed for sentence on a charge of forging the name oi his employer to a cheque for £4O. Smith, in evidence, said he gave Thompson a cheque hook for the purpose of filling in a cheque for £lO 18s for wages due, hut later he found a cheque for £4O had been drawn. Evidence was also given by a guest staying at the house that she found the paper on which Thompson had been practising writing Smith’s signature. The constable who arrested Thompson said he found him holding a gun and was told he had threatened to blow out his brains.
Counsel for accused said Thompson had a very trying time following the recent dentil of his mother, and used the majority of the money to pay her funeral expenses.
