HOCKEY.

MEETING OF REFEREES

MARTON, July 3

A meeting of the Combined Hockey Referees’ Association was held here on Thursday, referees being present from Paliiatua, Manawatu, Marton, Feilding and Oroua. Apologies for absence were received from Wanganui, Taihape, and Dannevirke. After the delegates bad been welcomed by Mr G. A. McKoy, Mr O. Sporle was voted to the chair. Mr H. Milne (Palmerston North) was elected secretary, and the following as an executive committee; Messrs Blackbourne and Parton (Manawatu), O. Sporle and Garlick (Feilding), G. MeKoy and T. F. Iwikau (Oroua), Scott and Cavanagh (Paliiatua), and two delegates from each of the associations not represented to be added. A discussion on the interpretation of the rules and uniformity of interpretation took place, and was brought to a satisfactory conclusion whereby rulings by the various referees in the districts represented will be uniform. It was decided to hold the next meeting at Woodvillo on Thursday, July 10. The visitors were afterwards entertained at supper as the guests of the Oroua Association. Mr Sporle, on behalf of the visitors, expressed his thanks for the hospitable reception accorded them. HARPER CUP TEAM. The following ladies’ hockey team representing Manwhenua lias been chosen to play a challenge game for the Harper Cup against Feilding at the Sportsground at 2.30 o’clock on Wednesday next:—Goal, Mrs Mowbray (Otaki) ; backs, Misses Hawea (Otaki), M. Scott (Manawatu) ; halves, Misses W. Robson (Manawatu), M. Godfrey (Manawatu), E. Robson (Manawatu); forwards, Misses F. Highfield (Manawatu), W. Ranson (Manawatu), Mrs Seal (Otaki), Misses B. Hakaraia (Otaki), G. McKenzie (Manawatu). Emergencies: Full Back, Miss N. Ainsworth (Manawatu) ; half, Miss E. McMinn (Manawatu) ; forwards, Misses Winiata (Otaki) wing, D. Turner (Manawatu) inner, J. Simpson (Manawatu).
