THE MIDGETS.

THE FIRST MATCH. HOKOWHITU BEAT CONVENT. The midget competition was officially launched at the interval to the Kia Toa —Feilding match when Hokowhitu and Convent tried conclusions, both sides entering upon activities with wonderful dasli. The tackling was an object lesson to the seniors, for while the ball was kept on the move, the low and deadly tackling of Convent brought the attacks of Hokowhitu, who held the upper hand, to nought, and the change-over found the score sheet a blank. Convent took a greater share of the play on resumption, but Hokowhitu launched an attack which seriously tested the defence. Although repelled, they came again and C. Bell finished off a movement by scoring wide out just as the bell sounded to emerge the winners bv three points to nil. Mr McKegg refrained from using the whistle as far as possible.
