EARTHQUAKE FUNDS.

LONGBURN COMMITTEE’S WORK

Commendable activities in the Long-burn-Tiakitahuna district on behalf of the Hawke’s Bay earthqui’ike sufferers were brought officially to an end last evening, when the relief committee formed in that area met to wind up its funds. Mr D. Buchanan presided. The treasurer reported that the total cash in hand was £l9l Bs. It was decided to close the account and pay the credit balance of £lB9 8s to the central fund at Wellington. The chairman commented that the response from the district had been wonderful, and made him feel proud to belong to it. In addition to raising over £l9l in cash, the district had provided 126 sheep, also large quantities of clothes, vegetables, cakes and butter. He considered that the committee could terminate its functions with the realisation that it had done its duty nobly. In moving a vote of thanks to the secretary (Mr C. Hills) Mr .7, Rogerson stated that much of the success achieved had been due to his enthusiasm and organising ability. Votes of thanks were accorded the treasurer (Mr F. Brockliss), Mr W. E. Wilson, Mr D. Buchanan and the National Mortgage and Agency Coy., Ltd. (per Mr Rogerson).
