NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL The monthly meeting of the council of the New Zealand Golf Association was held on Monday, when there were present:—Sir Alexander Roberts (chairman), Messrs A. D. S. Duncan, L. 0. H. Tripp, AY. E. A. Gill, W. A. Kiely, M. J. Crombie, Colonel it. 0. Chesney and G. 0. Sutton (secretary). The following new clubs, which had duly made application, were elected members of the association: —North Shore Golf Club, Takapuna; Pirinoa Golf Club, Wairarapa; YY’aharoa Golf Club, near Rotorua; Maungakiekie Golf Club, Auckland. The latter club occupies the links at One Tree Hill, Auckland, and the club which was formerly known as the Maungakiekie Golf Club, is now known as the Titirangi Golf Club. One club tendered its resignation from the association : the Lumsden Club, Southland.
The secretary reported that the New South YVales Golf Council had acknowledged receipt of the association’s cablegram suggesting postponement of the Kirk-Windeyer competition until 1932, and the suggestion is being referred to a meeting of the council of the New South Wales Association.
Only two further replies had been received to the circular sent to clubs regarding green-keeping research, and the council is now considering the matter of setting up a small advisory ■committee to collect information.
Particulars were received from the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrew’s regarding the British open and amateur golf championships, 1931. The British open is to be played on the Old Course at Carnoustie on the 3rd, 4tlr and sth June, four rounds of 18 holes. The qualifying rounds will be played previously and the 100 competitors (and all tieing for the hundredth place) shall be entitled to compete. The British Amateur will be played on the Royal Devon Course at Westward Ho, commencing on 18th M a >'- Forth coming tournaments advised to the association are as follow: Timaru Golf Club, annual South Canterbury championship meeting, June 3; Waipukurau Golf Club, annual tournament, September 3. 4 and 5; Wanganui Golf Club, championship tournament, October 1,2 and 3; New Zealand championship meeting, Shirley, Christchurch, October 15 to October 24.
