FERRY SERVICE.

RANGATIRA LAUNCHED

Received April 17, 9 a.m. LONDON, April 16.

Lady Wilford launched the steamer Rangatira at the Vickers-Armstrong works at Barrow-in-Furness to-day.

Owing to the great depression in the shipbuilding industry it was considered that the ceremony should be as quiet as possible. The Rangatira is a twin screw, clec-trically-driven vessel, and will accommodate 720 first-class and 236 secondclass passengers. The steamer will bo used on the Wellington-Lyttelton ferry service.
