PLUNKET SOCIETY

The monthly meeting of the Plunket Society way held yesterday afternoon, Mrs A. Coombs presiding. There were present Mesdames H. B. Free, Small, Wilson, J. H. Whyte, Peren, Fairbrother, A. E. Mansford, and M. Aitchison, honorary secretary. Apologies for- absence were received from Mesdames T. J. Rodgers, J. Murray,- Langley, Grigor, Collinson, Watson, Millar, Bennett, Mounsey, and Miss McLagan. Letters were received from the Hastings and Napier branches of the Plunket Society, gratefully acknowledging gifts of clothing. This clothing, explained Mrs Aitchison, had accumulated after the return of the refugees to their homes, and on the recommendation of Brigadier Whyte it had been sent on to Napier and Hastings. The report of the Plunket nurse for March was read and adopted, as follows : —Eighty-nine visits were paid to homes; there were 941 visits from adults, 751 visits by. babies and 182 visits by older children at tho office, making the total number 1874. There were 42 new cases. Visits to outstations: Four visits were paid to Foxton, four visits to homes, while 41 adults, 26 babies and 30 older children paid visits to the office, totalling 97 visits to the office. There were no new cases reported. Sales for tho month amounted to £4O 15s lOd, comprising : Membership fee, 10s 6d (Mrs K. Innes), £1 3s 3d from collection box, while donations of 5s each were gratefully received from Mesdames Balmer, MacMillan and Graham. The amounts received totalled £43 3s 7d.- — The report was adopted. A circular letter was received from the Central Council regarding the annual leave of Plunket nurses. It stated: “On account of difficulties which have arisen from time to time through Plunket nurses’ annual holidays not being arranged as they fall due, the Central Council have decided that, in future, annual holidays must be arranged at their due dates, and that the practice of allowing holiday leave to accumulate must be discontinued; and, further, that extended leave of absence from the society’s work will, in future, be granted only to nurses on the permanent staff after not less than four years’ continuous service with the society.”— Received. Mrs Small and Mrs Fairbrother were appointed visitors for the month.
