The Turkish tyrant, Murad. IV., was the first fanatical teetotaller. Ho executed 100,000 persons for drinking wine, vet he died himself from drunkenness in 1640, at the age of 29 years. Trade union contributions in India are usually 2d per month. On coming to a city a man often has to “bribe” somebody to get a job, and he usually lias to borrow this money at very high interest.
