ROSS SEA TOURS.

PLAN TO CHARTER SHrP. MOST INTERESTING SPOT. Further details of his plans for taking a 14-000-ton tourist steamer to be named Bonaventure to the Ross Sea were outlined in Britain by Captain J. R. Stenhouse, who commanded vessels engaged by Sir Ernest Shackleton in Antarctic exploration. Captain Stenhouse’s idea is to buy a suitable steamer, strengthen it with double steel plates round the waterline for ice-navigation, and use it for annual round-the-world tours, spending a week in January .in the Ross Sea, “the earth’s most interesting spot.” “The Ross Sea in summer is a delightful place,” said Captain Stenhouse. “There is sunshine all day, gentle breezes, glorious scenery and the world’s most wonderful volcanoes, rising 13,000 feet sheer from the ice. “Tourists could look on at modern whaling operations, and calls could be made at Macquarie and Campbell Islands to see penguins by the million in their natural state.”
