GOLF AT ADELAIDE.

MORPETH’S BRILLIANT WIN.

DEFEATS IVO WHITTON. ADELAIDE, Aug. 27. Ivo Whitton and Sloan Morpeth staged a thrilling match at Seaton today, Morpeth scoring a brilliant win. The weather was ideal. Whitton was 2 up on the morning, increasing the lead to 5 in the afternoon. Morpeth responded magnificently, and at the thirty-fifth hole was I up. At the next he missed a short putt for a win. The pair went a third round. The excitement was intense until the fortysecond hole was halved. Here Morpeth put his second on the green and NVhitton got into a bunker on the right. The latter needed two putts and Morpeth hoied in four. A spectacular hole was the thirtyninth, a bottle-neck green between two craters 280 yards from the tee. Morpeth played with an iron and got a beauty. Whitton,,pulling a trifle, stayed short on the sand and thence got adroitly on the green, holing in two putts. Morpeth had here a chance to win. With a chip too long he tipped the ball a foot from the pin, getting a half. He had a great reception. In the professionals’ contest Bissett beat Howard 3 and 2; Thomson beat Spence 2 and 1; James beat McLachlan 2 and 1; Stewart beat McMahon 4 and 3.
