WINE SALOON RAIDED
KEEPER USES DOUBLEBARRELLED GUN. CONSTABLE INJURED. EXCITING INCIDENT IN N.S.W. (United Press Association—By Electric \ Telegraph—Copyright). Received August 28. 9.30 a.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 28. When a number of police raided a wine saloon at Clybucca, near Kempsey last night a man named William May, who is stated to be proprietor of the saloon, produced a double-barrelled gun and fired # eight shots. Constable Foley was wounded in a leg, but the man was arrested at the revolver point. \ The police report states that the man refused to open the door to them. Later he appeared on the balcony fronting the saloon and told them to clear out. When the constables made a move toward the door the man opened fire. The police withdrew, but later surrounded the house and gained admittance.
May w r as charged in court this morning with shooting Constable Foley, with intent to murder him.
