POSITION AT ARAPUNI.

EXCESS WATER RELIEVED. The excess of water which caused the erosion below the spillway /at Arapuni has been relieved during the week-end by the provision of an outlet through No. 1 penstock tunnel (says a Waikato paper). The flow through the tunnel, which is estimated at 1000 cubic feet per second, has reduced the volume of water going over the spillway. The situation is further improved by the fact that the flood waters of the river are ebbing. At the powerhouse the second power unit has been undergoing trials and the generators have been subjected to the drying-out process. It is expected that this unit will be Iready for use in less than a month.
