Y.M.C.A. COMPETITIONS.
PALMERSTON NORTH BEAT AVELLINGTON. A party of 26 boy members of the Y.M.C.A. visited Wellington over the week-end to participate in a series of competitive games with representatives of the Av ellington association. The visitors, who were under the guidance of Mr T. Twiggo, won the games on the aggregate by six points to four. On arrival the party was met and billeted out. On Saturday afternoon a Rugby match was played at Kelburn Park, the Palmerstonians registering an easy victory by 31 points to r.ii. The scorers were E. Chin, Apatari (3.), Wilson (2), Mitchell and Elliott. Cutler and Elliott converted two goals and the latter player kicked a penalty. The teams next proceeded to the grounds at AVellington College where the inter-collegiate games were witnessed. A welcome tea was Later given at the Y.M.C.A., indoor games being played during the evening. Palmerston North won both the A and B basketball games with scores of 4-1 and 6-0 respectively, while in the ping-pong, dodge ball and hand ball, the honours were easy, with even games to both sides. On Sunday the party attended the morning service at St. Andrew’s Church and were subsequently taken on a motor tour of the city. A soccer match was decided on Monday morning, when Palmerston North again emerged victorious, the score being three goals to two, after ia good game. Tillick. Mutch and Apatari were the scorers.
