NEWBURY SCHOOL

FANCY DRESS BALL. The third annual children's fancy dress ball was held in the Newbury Hall last Friday evening and was a great success. The fancy costumes were very pretty and striking. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves with the many small dances which they had been practising previously, and much credit is due to Mr Galland and his assistant, Miss Shale, for the manner in which the children were trained. Misses Linklater and Shale, and Mr, Galland supplied the music for the children, who held the floor until ten o’clock, after which an orchestra performed for the dancing of the grown-ups. A dainty supper was provided by the ladies’ committee and the parents. The lucky spot dance was won by lan Linklater and Dorothy Knight, each receiving a prize donated by Mrs Linklater. A cake donated by Mrs Galland for a guessing competition was won by Mr Robson. The chairman, Mr E. W. Collins, thanked those present for their attendance, and all who assisted to make the function such a success, and congratulated the parents for the very nice frocks they bad chosen for the children. Mr Collins stated that the proceeds of the ball would be spent in improving the school grounds.
