AMERICAN TARIFF.
EUROPE’S PROTEST. (Australian Press Association.) PARIS, June 7. It is possible that more than one European country will engage in a tariff war against the United States. A congress representing 500 Chambers of Commerce in France passed a resolution protesting against the United States increasing protection and calling on the French Government to take counter measures. The congress suggested that various European nations whose economic future is gravely menaced by the new tariffs, which form an insuperable barrier to most goods, should take united defensive action.
NEWSPAPERS URGE BOYCOTT. (Australian Press Association.) BRUSSELS, June 7. Newspapers urge a boycott of American goods in view of the new tariff. They suggest an Economic Association, under the auspices of the League of Nations, as a gesture of solidarity that would be likely to impress Washington. (Australian Press Association.) ROME, June 7. The trade Press strongly condemn tlie new American tariffs.
