MATCH AT MOAWHANGO. CHAPMAN MAKES A CENTURY. (Special to “Standard.”) FEILDING, April 3. Moatvliango (Tailiape) was treated to a cricket treat over the week-end when the local eleven, captained by T. Lowry, played H. M. McGirr’s team from Wellington. Chapman, the English test team captain, and Dr. R. Bettington, the New South Wales representative played for Moawhango; whilst six Plunket Shield players, including C. S. Dempster and. K. C. James, strengthened McGirr’s eleven. The game resulted in a draw. The local team batted first and made 255 runs of which number Chapman supplied 109 before Dempster stumped him. The noted English cricketer gave an excellent display and scored rapidly, his total including i-l fours and three sixes. Lowry made 24, G. Chrystall 25, and Bettington 23. C. G. Wilson, the veteran bowler captured five wickets, doing the hat trick, while McGirr, Brice, Rotherham, Foley and James >took one each. When time was called McGirr’s eleven had made 215 runs and had one more wicket to fall. The principal scorers were James 38, Foley 36, Ross 30, Dempster 29, Patrick 14, Brice 12, Rotherham 11. Christy (Transvaal), a batsman who has many lino performances to his credit in club and provincial cricket. D. Morkel (Westorn Province), a poworful batsman and a fast bowler; one of South Africa’s leading all-rounders. H. B. Cameron (Transvaal), a wicketkeeper, and one of South Africa’s best batsmen. F. A. Van Dor Morwe (Transvaal), a splendid wicketkeeper who has come to the forefront with rapid strides. N. Quinn (Griqualand West), a fast left-hand bowler of great possibilities. L. Ochso (Eastern Province),a sturdily built fast bowler who has already achieved success against England’s representatives on their last South African tour. I. J. Siedlo (Natal), an opening batsman of proved ability. G. 'Dalton (Natal), a right-hand batsman who is well equipped with strokes all round the wicket. B. Mitchell (Transvaal), one of South Africa’s best all-rounders, who achieved outstanding success in tho rocont trials at Durban. A. G. Owcn-Smith (Western Province), a fine utility man; good with both bat and ball and excellent in the field. Q. Macmillan (Transvaal), an all-rounder. Ho is a fino batsman and very useful “googly” bowler. R. H. Cattcrall (0.F.5.), a splendid batsman who seldom fails on big occasions ; a fino outfield. A. J. Bell (Westorn Province), a good fast bowler who bowls a natural inswinger.
