FRANCE AND ITALY
TREATY NEGOTIATIONS
HOPE FOR COMPLETE AMITY,
BRITAIN’S ENCOURAGEMENT.
(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). (Australian Press Association). Received November 7, 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Nov. 6. In view of the many known differences between France and Italy, interest is contred on the prolonged negotiations conducted by M. Beaumarchais in Rome on behalf of the French Government—negotiations, it is hoped, will shortly culminate in an agreement on important outstanding points'. It is believed that a new treaty is being negotiated, under which Italy waives her claims to special treatment for Italians settled in Tunisia, while France agrees to the rectification of the frontier of Tripolitania.
Moreover, there is reason to believe that the treaty will include a preamble expressing the intention of both countries to live in amity, which will be a bitter joill to those both in France and in Italy who have been fishing in troubled waters.
According to a French source, the British Government lias been kept informed, and is actively encouraging the course of the negotiations.
