KEEN FISHERMAN.
RETURN TO NEW ZEALAND.
ONE OF THE “OLD BRIGADE.”
(By Telegraph.—Special to Standard.) AUCKLAND, Nov. 6. Describing himself as one of the “old brigade of anglers” who first revealed to overseas sportsmen the wonders of New Zealand’s trout streams, Mr J. Buckingham arrived at Auckland by the Marama, completing Ins 30th trip from England to New Zealand. Mr Buckingham paid his first visit to New Zealand in 1886 shortly after the Tarawera eruption, and on his first visit to Rotorua rode from the railhead near Cambridge. From then on he lias been a constant visitor. He has noticed many changes, but New Zealand still holds him. Mr Buckingham left Auckland to return to England last March, and •is back again as keen as ever about the prospects of the season’s fishing. He does not expect the phenomenal catches which fell to the lot of the “old brigade” in the days before American and English tourists thronged to New Zealand, but is confident that here he can still get the best fishing under tho best conditions.
