CENTRAL SCHOOL

MEETING OF COMMITTEE

The Central School Committee met last evening, Mr A. Clark presiding. Also present were Messrs B. J. Jacobs, H. Canton, F. S. C. Hubbard. W. H. Cameron, W. R. Mayes, and E. G. Tucker (secretary).

HEADMASTER’S REPORT.

Reporting for tbe month of October, the headmaster, Mr E. Bary, stated that the average attendance for the pa6t five weeks had been 772, whilst the roll had been maintained at 850. Miss Watson had had to obtain leave of absence . until after the Christmas vacation, owing to illness. Mrs Ferguson was acting as relieving teacher tor the remainder of the year. Miss Edwards was relieving in place of Miss Waters, who had resigned to accept a position at Shannon. Miss Kibblewhite had accepted a position in Dunedin and would be leaving at the end of this month. On October 29 and 81, Dr. Gunn had attended the school to select children for the health camp. A full complement of children from the school had accepted the invitation and would leave by train on Thursday. It was pleasing to report that all teachers from the school who had sat at the recent teachers’ eliminations had been successful. A timetable for school swimming had been drawn up and would be put into operation as soon as the baths were available. Standard three had raised and donated £6 4s 3d towards playing material. The school had been very successful in winter sports competitions, the girls winning the inter-school basket ball. In Rugby, the school teams had won the midget competition and had been runnersup in the senior inter-school contest. The medals presented to the school by the Kia Toa Football Club for the best senior forward and back had been won by G. Langston and R. Metcalf. Master E. Fletcher’s medal for the best junior player was won by W. Gibson. At hockey the school tennis were the winners of the Levy trophy for local inter-school competition, the McLean Shield for a five-aside competition held locally, and the Feilding Hockey Association’s Cup for the seven-aside competition held at Feilding.—Adopted. it was decided to thank and congratulate the Standard three scholars for their efforts in raising the money for the sports material. General satisfaction was expressed at the scholars’ success in winter sports, and the headmaster and sports master were congratulated.
