RONGOTEA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) RONGOTEA, Nov. 7.
The usual weekly function of the Rongotea Social Club was held on Thursday evening when the attendance was very good and an enjoyable time was spent by all. After 24 gumes of euchre, Mrs 11. A. Buchanan emerged the winner of the ladies’ prize, whilst the men’s prize was annexed by Mr W. G. Bavlis, Consolation prizes were awarded to Miss Jill Bower and Mr R. Bower. Supper was then partaken of, after which the usual card games were continued and .a pleasant evening was brought to a close about midnight. Throughout the season keen interest in the club and its activities has been maintained and on not one occasion lias an evening been conducted at a great loss. The committee and members are to be congratulated bn the success of the club which has been the means of passing many wintry evenings in pleasure. Although the tournament, has ended, the members continue to display enthusiasm. On Friday evening, Padre Brown, of Palmerston North, addressed the residents of Rongotea in the Coronation Hall, his subject being prohibition. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the speaker. Mr L. H. Yarrall, chairman of the Town Board, presided. Tho prospects for tho forthcoming Horticultural Society’s show are very bright, and it is anticipated that there will ho a largo number of entries in all classes. Although the flood waters have practically receded, the land on the low lying areas along Jones’s Line is still covered with water.
