COST OF THE WORK

The operation in connection with the removal of silt from the water supply reservoir at Tiritea actually cost £2051 13s Id up to October 23, according to a statement submitted to the Palmerston North Borough Council last evening by the engineer. The estimated cost was £2650. Assuming, however, that sluicing operations could be carried on uptil November 20, the estimate of tho extra expenditure involved was £250, increasing the cost to £2901 13s Id. Tho actual expenditure comprised £97 12s lOd for stream diversion, and £867 2s lid for concrete weir in connection with the intake; £1125 17s 6d for repairs to the existing pipe line; £lB4 8s 5d for plant, cleaning and widening track, after allowing credits of £2OS 14s when concrete mixer was taken over by the general account; £373 11s 9d for connecting existing mains to new pipe lino at mam dam; and £2 19s'Sd for removal of silt-. The repairs to the existing pipe line cost £625 17s 6d more than was anticipated and the intake £74 15s 9d in excess of the estimate.
