MOTOR REGULATIONS.
FURTHER CONSIDERATION DESHtED, Per Press Association. NELSON, Nov. 29. Tlie Mayor of Nelson (Mr W. J. Moffatt) as president of the Municipal Association, has sent the following communication to the Prime Minister concerning the proposed motor regulations:—“The time allowed for consideration of the motor regulations is altogether inadequate, and I request that the time bo extended to allow the Municipal Association’s executive to deliberate fully thereon at its meeting on December 13. I suggest that the use of roads, etc., is so affected by the provisions of the Municipal Corporations Act, the Public Works, Police Offences, Stock and Impounding and other Acts dealing with traffic that a comprehensive Traffic Act is required to consolidate the provisions of all those Acts and dther Acts affecting all classes of traffic, including pedestrian traffic. Tlie Prime Minister replied: “Your telegram lias been received and representations regarding the motor regulations duly noted. They have been forwarded for consideration by the Minister of Public Works.” Mr Moffatt states that the Government had asked that the recommendations of the local bodies be forwarded by December .1 in order that tlie regulations could be gazetted on December 7. The view of th© Municipal Association was that it was impossible for tlie Government to go through all the recommendations before December 7. A suggestion had been made that an emergency meeting of the executive of the Municipal Association be held to consider tlie regulations, but as this would have been attended by only a few representatives it was considered advisable to ask for an extension of the time in order that the full executive might discuss them.
