LONGBURN.

Mr T. Lancaster, of Walker’s Road, who has been indisposed for some time, is still far from well.
During the week-end a men’s team from Miranui visited Longburn to play the local club in the first of the annual home and home matches. Longburn was too strong for the visitors, winning the match by 10 sets to 2, and 99 games to 48. The following are the scores in detail, Longburn players being mentioned first: —Singles: L. Hills beat F. Pickard, 9 —2; E. Jewell beat R. Hunt, 9—l; F. Garner beat J. Mabey, 9—4; H. Mabey beat K. Goodwin, 9 —2; H. MacDonald beat A. Gillespie, 9—4; E; Blomfield beat P. Aitken, 9—l. Doubles: Hills and Jewell beat Pickard and Hunt; 9 —3; Garner and A. Mabey lost to J. Mabey and Goodwin, 3 —9; MacDonald and Blomfield beat Gillespie and Aitken, 9 —4; Hills and H. Mabey lost to Pickard and Goodwin, 6 —9; Jewell and Macdonald beat Hunt and Gillespie, 9 —3; Garner and Blomfield beat J. Mabey and Aitken, 9—6. The running track has been marked off in the playground and a considerable amount of training is being done by the children in preparation for the annual sports which will be held on December 16th. The Longburn stall at All Saints’ Spring Fair was splendidly managed by the members of tho Ladies’ Guild and to them is due the great success tho stall’s effort proved to be. Mr W. Johansen, of the station staff, is spending his annual leave in Auckland. Mrs Bannister, of No. 1 Line, has been very ill and her many friends will be pleased to hear that her condition has improved a little the last few days.
