In the Federal House of Representatives, the amendment by Mr.'M. Charlton to reduce the Budget by £1 was defeated by 33 votes to 17, and the Estimates were then passed. M. Rykoff, in a speceh, said the Soviet aiaturally would not decline negotiations for the resumption of relations with Britain but Britain took the initiative in the rupture, and therefore must take the initiative for a resumption. Mrs Dtelvingje, charged 'with' the murder of her mtoher, who was suffering from incurable cancer, was found to be insane and unfit to plead (states a London message). She will be detained at His Majesty’s pleasure. Negotiations are in progress "at Chigi 'Palace for a treaty of commerce between Italy and Hungary, says a Press Association message from Rome.
Heavy rain in Sydney on Saturday caused the postponement of all race meetings and many other sporting fixtures, but the pastoral areas, particularly in the western district, have greatly benefited.
